Elisha Porter “Port” was part Cherokee and came from a long line of Gowers in Tennessee. His first wife, Mary Ann Dozier's children were Martha Jane, Sarah Catherine, Virginia Tinnie, James Elihu. Elisha fought in the Civil War and was wounded. After the war, Mary Ann died and he moved to Fannin County, TX. There he met Sarah Catherine Gower and they married. They were not related. They settled in Paoli after the first land run. Their children were Thomas Jefferson, Will Elijah, Luther, Albert Sidney, Rosa Ella, Nannie.
